Cooling System Flush
Do you change your antifreeze as recommended by your vehicle maintenance schedule? OnDemand Mechanic can help take out the guesswork and ensure your cooling system is maintained as accurately as possible!
Description of Cooling Flush Service
Engine coolant, commonly referred to as “antifreeze,” functions as a heat transfer fluid that removes excess heat from a vehicle’s engine. Typically, a 50/50 ratio of ethylene or propylene glycol and water, coolants are available in many different types to meet the specifications laid out by vehicle manufacturers. Choosing the proper coolant is essential for the best performance, and it is vital only to use the coolant type recommended in your owner’s manual.
Without coolant, the heat generated from a car engine’s internal combustion would quickly break down the internal components. While coolant components are often mixed with water, the water alone is rarely enough to facilitate the cooling level needed. Once the engine becomes too hot, the heat created by the engine would start to boil the water content, or the summer heat would evaporate it, leading to a dry run of the engine with no protection from the heat. Unfortunately, this can also occur when coolant isn’t flushed at appropriate intervals.
OnDemand Mechanic will come to your location to flush the old antifreeze out of your cooling system and replace it with fresh antifreeze. Our cooling system flush services include BG Cooling System Cleaner, up to 20 quarts of vehicle-specific coolant, and BG Super Cool cooling system protectant. Radiator Flush & Refill for most vehicles $265, contact us for an estimate.

Why Should I Flush My Cooling System Regularly?
Changing your antifreeze regularly helps keep your engine running at its optimal temperature for peak performance. Over time, the antifreeze will break down, causing corrosion to the internal cooling system components, such as the radiator and heater core. This can ultimately cause premature water pump and thermostat failure. New antifreeze will also help prevent the build-up of rust that could further promote the deterioration of these components.
Car engines create excessive amounts of energy and heat while in operation. Both the exhaust and the cooling system work in conjunction to ensure the engine stays cool. This occurs when the coolant absorbs the engine’s heat and keeps water from boiling during excessive temperatures. If coolant isn’t replaced regularly, it likely won’t be effective at limiting the heat accumulation occurring – potentially damaging the engine or causing overheating issues.
How Often Should I Flush My Cooling System?
When determining how often a coolant system should be flushed, it is crucial to understand that recommendations can vary between each make and model. Usually, car repair professionals will recommend that a coolant flush be performed annually to preserve system integrity; however, many manufacturers will recommend the cooling system be flushed on a milage basis.
Always follow the recommended maintenance intervals in your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual. Many vehicle manufacturers will recommend that a coolant flush be completed between every 100,000 – 150,000. Based on our experience, this number seems to be accurate as a guideline for when a coolant flush might be necessary. Although, OnDemand Mechanic recommends flushing your cooling system every 50,000-60,000 miles for the best results.
